The public segments of the database are made available on the World Wide Web as a DOE-maintained information resource for unrestricted public use. Alternately, the non-public segments of the database are reserved for "work in progress" and/or proprietary information shared by DOE and its international safety research partners. The non-public elements of the database may eventually be released to the open literature as a natural consequence of the associated research programs. Release occurs subsequent to appropriate clearance reviews that are part of all DOE-sponsored research. Until such clearances for open publication, restricted information is considered preliminary (and in some cases proprietary to DOE's research partner), and public access is not granted.
Access to the non-public elements of the database is controlled based on user identity and access level authorization. To obtain access to the restricted information in the database, you need to be a registered user. Registration involves submitting a request form along with a proper justification of the need for access (DOE research partner, as an example).
